Forget the noble fight for suffrage, equal wage for equal work or being taken seriously as professionals. Forget the millions of women still oppressed by backwards ideologies. The problem for feminists today is bottoms. Or, rather, how scantily clad they are and the tempo of their movement. I am talking, of course, about twerking, the move made popular by Miley Cyrus.
In response to Miley Cyrus’ antics earlier on in the year, Lily Allen released a new “feminist anthem”. The lyrics are truly inspiring to break some glass ceilings.
If I told you ’bout my sex life, you’d call me a slut
When boys be talking about their bitches, no one’s making a fuss
There’s a glass ceiling to break, uh-huh, there’s money to make
And now it’s time to speed it up ’cause I can’t move at this pace
The video itself is full of skantily-clad professional twerkers. I’m sure it’s meant to be ironic, but “chauvinist pigs” will enjoy it just as much as they enjoyed Miley’s displays.
It is sad yet unsurprising that feminists nowadays refuse to touch serious issues of female discrimination not only in places like Saudi Arabia, but in the “diverse neighbourhoods” of English towns. It is sad yet unsurprising that people sign (fake) petitions in favour of female genital mutilation. It is sad yet unsurprising that this movement has lost all credibility and relevance, since the only fights it can pick is banning rap songs in student unions and making tumblrs about “rape culture”. Political correctness, so treasured by feminists, has made them toothless to oppose “different cultures”.
There are serious problems for women in the world. Scantly-clad performers and lad mags are not those problems.
