Bill Maher on his November 8, 2013 Real Time With Bill Maher episode on HBO interviewed Bill Binney, former NSA employee who was working for the agency for over thirty years. Binney was a former technician for the controversial National Security Agency (NSA) who has been tapping American citizens and foreign officials cellphones and emails without warrant.
New information regarding the NSA’s activities are brought to the public attention by Edward Snowden who leaked confidential confidential documents stating that the agency was tapping American phones’ without a warrant. Snowden, also a former NSA employee now a whistleblower, was charged by the U.S. Government for espionage.
Binney, on Real Time, speaks out against the NSA’s spying activities and states that President Obama’s national security policies are, in fact, more intrusive than former President George W. Bush’s were.
New revelations about the intelligence program are consistently being brought forth by former NSA employees, whistleblowers, and civil liberty watchdogs, including the allegations of the U.S. spying on foreign leaders’ communications and foreign civilians.
To summarize, the NSA is spying on American officials, foreign leaders, Congressmen, Senators, American citizens, and foreign citizens.
