John Taylor Gatto is an American school teacher, historian of education, and proponent of alternatives to the established public school system. He was named best teacher for the New York City public school system for 1989, 1990, and 1991, and best teacher in New York State for 1991.
1. “For reasons that are both fair and foul - but mostly for fair reasons - we have come under the domain of a scientific-management system whose ambitions are endless. They want to manage every second of our lives, every expenditure that we make. And the schools are the training ground to create a population that’s easy to manage.”

7. “By preventing a free market in education, a handful of social engineers - backed by the industries that profit from compulsory schooling: teacher colleges, textbook publishers, materials suppliers, et al. - have ensured that most of our children will not have an education, even though they may be thoroughly schooled.”
