Venezuela is on fire. With rising unemployment, violent crime and an inflation of 56%, it is no wonder people are protesting. The touted “socialist paradise” created by the late Hugo Chavez, propped up by the country’s vast oil resources, has not survived the man’s death. The new, less charismatic and more brutish, president, Nicolas Maduro, is having to deal with the fallout of a failed economy. Food items and things like toilet paper are rationed.
It will come as no surprise to anyone that such a system cannot survive. It has failed and failed again in the last century, but not without the deaths and suffering of millions.
However, such realities cannot penetrate the minds of the left. The video below shows the Labour MP, Diane Abbott, praising Venezuela as “another way”. That’s right, another way into violence, poverty, and misery for all, equally.
